Online Therapy Intensives in Steamboat Springs and throughout the state of Colorado
A therapy intensive brings focused, extended time to your healing, two or three hours in a single online session instead of many short appointments. For people in Steamboat and the surrounding Yampa Valley, intensives can be a practical way to access specialized trauma care without hours of winter driving.
I offer Saturday intensives by secure video to adults throughout Routt County and Colorado, using EMDR, IFS, and body-based approaches tailored to you. You'll need a private room, a reliable connection, and to be physically in Colorado on the day of your session.
- Free consultation
- Online in Colorado & Florida
- $200 per session

Specialized support without crossing Rabbit Ears Pass

In a mountain community, the nearest therapist with advanced training in EMDR or IFS may be several hours away, and winter roads over Rabbit Ears Pass can make regular trips unrealistic. Many people in the valley also work seasonally, on the mountain, in hospitality, or on ranches, where schedules change with the weather and the time of year.
An online intensive lets you schedule one focused block when it works for you, often during a slower stretch between seasons. We'll prepare in a 90-minute intake, do concentrated work during your two- or three-hour session, and check in afterward to help it settle. For people who value self-reliance, intensives can also feel like a good fit: purposeful, contained, and focused on giving you tools you can carry forward on your own.
Therapy for Steamboat Springs residents, from home
Steamboat Springs is a ranching town and a ski town at the same time, tucked into the Yampa Valley with long winters, deep snow, and a close community. People here tend to be self-reliant. Asking for help, especially with something as personal as trauma or anxiety, doesn't always come naturally.
Distance is part of the story too. Reaching a therapist with specialized trauma training can mean a long drive over Rabbit Ears Pass, and winter roads don't always cooperate. Small-town life adds another layer: when you see the same faces at the grocery store and on the gondola, walking into a local office can feel exposed.
Online therapy offers a private, practical alternative. I'm licensed in Colorado and meet with Routt County adults by secure video, from Steamboat, Hayden, Oak Creek, and beyond.

How therapy intensives work

Intensives are typically held on Saturdays, at varying times to fit different schedules. Each session runs 2 to 3 hours depending on the work and your needs. New clients also receive a 90-minute intake session beforehand and a follow-up session one to two weeks afterward.
Before your intensive, we'll meet for a consultation to map your goals and the areas you want to address. During the intensive you'll receive my undivided attention, drawing on EMDR, IFS, cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and somatic practices as needed.
- Trauma healing with EMDR
- Inner child work and emotional processing with IFS
- Building and practicing emotional regulation strategies
- Deep self-reflection and reframing of limiting beliefs
- Coping strategies for ongoing stress, anxiety, or grief

More client stories“I was initially hesitant to do any therapy. My previous experiences with therapists were not so fruitful or helpful. Most of the time I could recognize that my reactions to things were illogical or based on fallacies but not why or how I could change them. I thought I'd be doomed to live a painful life and other people just had something I didn't. That every day would be worse than the previous day. But, with Mrs. Romero and EMDR/IFS things changed. I'm not saying it was easy. It was hard; but worth it. The world used to scare me and the people in it. I felt like an animal just reacting to random stimuli and not knowing why. But through therapy I was able to become more relaxed and enjoy life and what it has to offer. I could face my problems head on and actually get to the bottom of them. I'm 1000x happier than when I first started. I couldn't quite believe it myself. The past me would think that was bull; but it's the truth. I still have some things to change but I'm hopeful for the future and I actually have tools to reach that future. I used to be so hard on myself for mistakes or taking responsibility for things that weren't mine to take. EMDR/IFS helped me build compassion and patience with myself. I look forward to most days and I think there's some beauty in that.”
Therapy Intensives in Steamboat Springs: common questions
Have a question that isn't answered here? I'm happy to talk it through in a free consultation.
It's often the most realistic one. Whether you're on a ranch near Clark, in a house in Stagecoach, or in an apartment in Craig, online sessions spare you the winter driving. If cell coverage is spotty where you live, a home internet connection works best, and we can set up a backup plan for dropped calls.
Yes. Seasonal work often means shifting schedules, early mornings, and long days in the cold, and therapy needs to bend around that. We can find a weekly time that fits your rotation, or you might prefer a Saturday intensive during a quieter stretch. If you leave Colorado between seasons, we'll pause and pick back up when you're home, unless you're spending that time in Florida.
Not a physical one. All of my sessions take place online, so you won't need to drive into town or worry about who's in the waiting room. You'll want a private space, a steady connection, and to be physically located in Colorado, or Florida, whenever we meet.
If you want more than the traditional weekly therapy experience and feel ready for deep emotional work in a condensed timeframe, an intensive may be a great fit. They're especially helpful for recovering from trauma, navigating transitions like divorce, career changes, or grief, breaking through self-limiting beliefs, and strengthening emotional regulation.
No. Some people benefit from more than one, but many clients see significant improvement after a single intensive. The decision to continue is always yours, and we'll talk about your progress and needs afterward.
Intensives are not typically covered by insurance because of their extended format. I can provide a superbill so you can check with your plan about out-of-network reimbursement, and I offer flexible payment plans.
Yes. Many people who are already in therapy book an intensive to make focused progress on a specific issue. It can complement your ongoing work.
We'll discuss your goals in the consultation and decide together whether an intensive is the right starting point. It's important that you feel comfortable, and every intensive is tailored to your experience.
