Online Therapy Intensives in Aspen and throughout the state of Colorado
When you live in a mountain town, seeing a specialized therapist every week can feel out of reach. Therapy intensives offer another way: one extended online session of two or three hours, prepared in advance and followed up afterward, so you can do meaningful work without a long drive or a standing weekly slot.
I provide online intensives to adults in Aspen, Snowmass, and throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. I'm licensed in Colorado, an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist, and IFS-trained. Each intensive is shaped around your goals and your season.
- Free consultation

Fitting deep work into ski seasons and offseasons

Work in the Aspen area follows the calendar. Winter brings long days on the slopes, in restaurants, or in hotels, and summer has its own rush. Then the offseason arrives, and suddenly there's time. For many valley residents, weekly therapy feels impossible during peak months but possible in short, focused bursts when things quiet down.
Intensives are built for that rhythm. We can plan your intake and intensive for the slower weeks of spring or fall, or schedule a Saturday when your work calendar allows. In that time, we might focus on a specific trauma, a pattern of burnout, or the isolation that can come with mountain living. Then a follow-up session helps you integrate it all before the next busy season begins. No trip over Independence Pass or down I-70 required.
Therapy for Aspen residents, from home
Life in the Roaring Fork Valley follows the seasons. Winter means long shifts on the mountain or in hospitality, summer brings festivals and visitors, and the offseason weeks in spring and fall can feel strangely quiet. Many people who live and work around Aspen piece together more than one job, commute up and down Highway 82, and have very little predictable time.
Access to specialized mental health care can be a challenge in a mountain valley. When Independence Pass closes for the winter and the drive to the Front Range takes hours over I-70, seeing a trauma-trained therapist in person can mean taking a full day off. Online therapy brings that care into your own space, whether you live in Aspen, Snowmass, or downvalley in Carbondale or Glenwood Springs.
I'm licensed in Colorado and offer online therapy and Saturday intensives to adults throughout the valley.

How therapy intensives work

Intensives are typically held on Saturdays, at varying times to fit different schedules. Each session runs 2 to 3 hours depending on the work and your needs. New clients also receive a 90-minute intake session beforehand and a follow-up session one to two weeks afterward.
Before your intensive, we'll meet for a consultation to map your goals and the areas you want to address. During the intensive you'll receive my undivided attention, drawing on EMDR, IFS, cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and somatic practices as needed.
- Trauma healing with EMDR
- Inner child work and emotional processing with IFS
- Building and practicing emotional regulation strategies
- Deep self-reflection and reframing of limiting beliefs
- Coping strategies for ongoing stress, anxiety, or grief

More client stories“I was initially hesitant to do any therapy. My previous experiences with therapists were not so fruitful or helpful. Most of the time I could recognize that my reactions to things were illogical or based on fallacies but not why or how I could change them. I thought I'd be doomed to live a painful life and other people just had something I didn't. That every day would be worse than the previous day. But, with Mrs. Romero and EMDR/IFS things changed. I'm not saying it was easy. It was hard; but worth it. The world used to scare me and the people in it. I felt like an animal just reacting to random stimuli and not knowing why. But through therapy I was able to become more relaxed and enjoy life and what it has to offer. I could face my problems head on and actually get to the bottom of them. I'm 1000x happier than when I first started. I couldn't quite believe it myself. The past me would think that was bull; but it's the truth. I still have some things to change but I'm hopeful for the future and I actually have tools to reach that future. I used to be so hard on myself for mistakes or taking responsibility for things that weren't mine to take. EMDR/IFS helped me build compassion and patience with myself. I look forward to most days and I think there's some beauty in that.”
Therapy Intensives in Aspen: common questions
Have a question that isn't answered here? I'm happy to talk it through in a free consultation.
Usually, yes, but it's smart to plan for it. A wired connection or a spot close to your router helps, and a phone hotspot makes a good backup. If the video freezes during deeper work, we slow down, reconnect, and make sure you're grounded before continuing. During our first session we'll agree on what to do if the connection drops so you never feel left hanging.
You can meet with me whenever you are physically in Colorado or Florida. If you travel during the offseason, we might plan focused work before you leave and resume weekly sessions when you return. If you winter in Florida and summer in Aspen, you're in luck: I'm licensed in both states, so we can continue without interruption.
No. My practice is online only, which is part of what makes it accessible from places like Basalt, Woody Creek, or Redstone. You won't need to drive into town, find parking, or take time off between shifts. Being in Colorado during the session, with enough privacy to speak openly, is what matters.
If you want more than the traditional weekly therapy experience and feel ready for deep emotional work in a condensed timeframe, an intensive may be a great fit. They're especially helpful for recovering from trauma, navigating transitions like divorce, career changes, or grief, breaking through self-limiting beliefs, and strengthening emotional regulation.
No. Some people benefit from more than one, but many clients see significant improvement after a single intensive. The decision to continue is always yours, and we'll talk about your progress and needs afterward.
Intensives are not typically covered by insurance because of their extended format. I can provide a superbill so you can check with your plan about out-of-network reimbursement, and I offer flexible payment plans.
Yes. Many people who are already in therapy book an intensive to make focused progress on a specific issue. It can complement your ongoing work.
We'll discuss your goals in the consultation and decide together whether an intensive is the right starting point. It's important that you feel comfortable, and every intensive is tailored to your experience.
