Online Therapy Intensives in Boulder and throughout the state of Colorado
If you've already done a lot of personal growth work, through therapy, meditation, or reading, and still feel stuck in one particular place, a therapy intensive can offer the focused time that place needs. Intensives provide two or three hours of continuous work, so we can follow what comes up without watching the clock.
I offer online Saturday intensives to adults in Boulder and throughout Colorado, integrating EMDR, IFS, and somatic, polyvagal-informed practices. We'll map your goals together in a 90-minute intake, so the intensive itself can go straight to the heart of things.

When insight isn't enough and the body needs time

Boulder is a community that values self-awareness. Many residents can describe their attachment style, name their triggers, and explain their nervous system in detail. That knowledge is valuable. Still, insight alone doesn't always change how your body responds when an old memory gets activated or a relationship feels threatened.
Intensives create space for experiential work that goes beyond understanding. With extended time, EMDR processing can move through a memory more fully, and IFS work can follow a part all the way to what it's been protecting. We'll stay attentive to your body throughout, slowing down whenever your system needs it. Students, researchers, and professionals with packed weekdays may appreciate that an intensive asks for one Saturday rather than a standing weekly slot.
Therapy for Boulder residents, from home
Boulder is a place where people tend to be curious about their inner lives. Mindfulness, yoga, and body-based practices are woven into the culture, and many residents have already read the books, tried the apps, and done a fair amount of talk therapy. Sometimes what's missing is a structured way to work with what's stored in the body and the nervous system.
The city is also home to CU Boulder, federal research labs, and a busy tech and startup scene, which means a lot of high achievers running on tight timelines. Add Flatirons trail time, commuting on US-36, and winters that bring early darkness, and a weekly in-person appointment can feel like one more thing to schedule.
I meet with Boulder County adults by secure video. Fire season and smoky summer days have become part of life on the Front Range, and having a steady place to process that stress, without leaving home, can make a real difference.

How therapy intensives work

Intensives are typically held on Saturdays, at varying times to fit different schedules. Each session runs 2 to 3 hours depending on the work and your needs. New clients also receive a 90-minute intake session beforehand and a follow-up session one to two weeks afterward.
Before your intensive, we'll meet for a consultation to map your goals and the areas you want to address. During the intensive you'll receive my undivided attention, drawing on EMDR, IFS, cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and somatic practices as needed.
- Trauma healing with EMDR
- Inner child work and emotional processing with IFS
- Building and practicing emotional regulation strategies
- Deep self-reflection and reframing of limiting beliefs
- Coping strategies for ongoing stress, anxiety, or grief

More client stories“I was initially hesitant to do any therapy. My previous experiences with therapists were not so fruitful or helpful. Most of the time I could recognize that my reactions to things were illogical or based on fallacies but not why or how I could change them. I thought I'd be doomed to live a painful life and other people just had something I didn't. That every day would be worse than the previous day. But, with Mrs. Romero and EMDR/IFS things changed. I'm not saying it was easy. It was hard; but worth it. The world used to scare me and the people in it. I felt like an animal just reacting to random stimuli and not knowing why. But through therapy I was able to become more relaxed and enjoy life and what it has to offer. I could face my problems head on and actually get to the bottom of them. I'm 1000x happier than when I first started. I couldn't quite believe it myself. The past me would think that was bull; but it's the truth. I still have some things to change but I'm hopeful for the future and I actually have tools to reach that future. I used to be so hard on myself for mistakes or taking responsibility for things that weren't mine to take. EMDR/IFS helped me build compassion and patience with myself. I look forward to most days and I think there's some beauty in that.”
Therapy Intensives in Boulder: common questions
Have a question that isn't answered here? I'm happy to talk it through in a free consultation.
If you're 18 or older and physically in Colorado during our sessions, yes. If you go home to another state for breaks, we would pause during those weeks, unless home happens to be Florida. I'm private pay, so you may want to compare my rates with campus counseling or your family's insurance benefits. A free consultation can help you figure out what makes sense.
Yes. My approach is somatic and polyvagal-informed, which means we pay attention to what your body is doing, not just your thoughts. Online, that might look like noticing your breath, sensations, or posture, using grounding practices, or slowing down when your system starts to speed up. It translates surprisingly well to video when you are in a space that feels safe.
There isn't. I offer therapy only through telehealth, which works whether you're in north Boulder, up the canyon in Nederland, or out east in Erie. Because mountain internet can be patchy, I suggest testing your connection before we start. Being physically in Colorado or Florida at the time of each session is the one firm requirement.
If you want more than the traditional weekly therapy experience and feel ready for deep emotional work in a condensed timeframe, an intensive may be a great fit. They're especially helpful for recovering from trauma, navigating transitions like divorce, career changes, or grief, breaking through self-limiting beliefs, and strengthening emotional regulation.
No. Some people benefit from more than one, but many clients see significant improvement after a single intensive. The decision to continue is always yours, and we'll talk about your progress and needs afterward.
Intensives are not typically covered by insurance because of their extended format. I can provide a superbill so you can check with your plan about out-of-network reimbursement, and I offer flexible payment plans.
Yes. Many people who are already in therapy book an intensive to make focused progress on a specific issue. It can complement your ongoing work.
We'll discuss your goals in the consultation and decide together whether an intensive is the right starting point. It's important that you feel comfortable, and every intensive is tailored to your experience.
