Trauma Therapy in Windermere and throughout Florida

Trauma doesn't always look like what we see in movies. It can come from a single frightening event, but it can also grow out of years of emotional neglect, criticism, or not feeling safe at home. Many adults with this kind of history are thoughtful, successful, and deeply caring, and still feel a constant undercurrent of anxiety, shame, or emptiness.

I provide trauma therapy online to adults in Windermere and across Florida. Using EMDR, IFS, and body-based approaches, we work toward healing that you can feel in your body and your relationships, not just understand.

Privacy and pacing for a close-knit community

The sun setting over the sea in Florida

In a community like Windermere, where neighbors know each other and kids' schools and activities overlap, privacy matters. Some people delay trauma therapy because they don't want to be seen walking into a local office or have their story become part of the neighborhood conversation. That concern is valid, and it shouldn't stand between you and care.

Online trauma therapy lets you begin quietly, from a private room at home. We'll go at a pace that respects your nervous system, building grounding skills and a sense of safety before exploring painful memories. Trauma work is not about reliving the past. It's about helping your mind and body recognize that the danger is over, so you can feel more present with your family, your work, and yourself.

Serving Southwest Orange County

Therapy for Windermere residents, from home

Windermere has a small-town feel that a lot of people treasure: brick streets, the Butler Chain of Lakes, neighbors who recognize your car. That closeness is a gift, and it can also make it harder to walk into a local therapist's office without wondering who might see you in the parking lot.

Online therapy offers a quieter path. You can meet with me from your own home, a home office, or a parked car by the lake, and no one needs to know you have an appointment unless you choose to tell them. For busy parents juggling school runs to Horizon West and Dr. Phillips, or professionals commuting toward downtown Orlando and the attractions corridor, it also gives back the time that driving would take.

I'm licensed in Florida and work with Windermere adults who want trauma-informed, depth-oriented care.

Does this resonate with you?

  1. 01

    Feeling stuck in the past

Do you find yourself replaying painful memories, unable to move forward no matter how much time has passed? Trauma can leave you feeling trapped, but it doesn't have to define your present or future. Together, we can process and release the weight of those memories so you can regain control of your life.

  2. 02

    Overwhelming anxiety and hypervigilance

Do you feel like you're always on edge, waiting for the next bad thing to happen? Trauma can wire your brain to stay in survival mode, leaving you exhausted and unable to relax. Therapy can help calm your nervous system and rebuild a sense of safety in daily life.

  3. 03

    Difficulty trusting others

Are you struggling to let people in, fearing they might hurt or disappoint you? Trauma often teaches us to build walls for protection, but those same walls can keep out genuine connection. Through a trauma-informed approach, we can rebuild trust, starting with yourself.

  4. 04

    Self-doubt and negative beliefs

Do you feel unworthy, broken, or not "good enough"? Trauma can leave a deep imprint on your sense of self. In therapy, we'll challenge and transform these beliefs, helping you reconnect with your inherent worth and strengths.

  5. 05

    Unexplained emotional or physical reactions

Do sudden waves of anger, sadness, or panic seem to come out of nowhere? Does your body feel tense, restless, or heavy without an obvious reason? Trauma often shows up as unresolved emotions or sensations stored in the body. Together, we'll explore these reactions and heal both emotionally and physically.

Healing from trauma is possible, and you deserve a life where you feel safe, connected, and at peace. Let's take that first step together.

How I can help

Becky Romero, LMHC, LPC, at her desk

As a Certified EMDR therapist with ongoing training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) through the trainings of Frank Anderson and Richard Schwartz, I bring a deeply integrative approach. My work weaves together EMDR, IFS, and attachment theory to help you process trauma, connect with your inner parts, and heal attachment wounds.

Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your needs, combining somatic awareness, guided imagery, and emotional processing to create a safe space for growth. Together, we'll uncover and address the root of your struggles, so you can move toward balance and self-compassion.

A nervous-system-first approach

Trauma lives in the body as much as in memory. Drawing on Polyvagal Theory and somatic therapy, we start by helping your nervous system feel safe enough to do the work. You'll learn practical regulation tools you can use between sessions, and we'll only move into processing when you have the resources to handle it.

My background includes inpatient psychiatric intake, emergency department, and NICU settings, so I understand how acute stress, medical trauma, and crisis can leave a lasting mark, even years later.

FAQ

Trauma Therapy in Windermere: common questions

Have a question that isn't answered here? I'm happy to talk it through in a free consultation.

In a close community, privacy is a fair concern. With telehealth there is no waiting room, no shared parking lot, and no chance of running into a neighbor at check-in. Sessions happen on a secure platform, and your records are kept confidential under federal privacy law and my professional ethics. You decide who, if anyone, knows that you are in therapy.

I work only with adults 18 and older, so I'm not the right fit for teens. That said, many of the parents I see are working on their own patterns so they can show up differently for their kids. If your child needs support, I'm happy to share ideas about what to look for in a therapist who specializes in adolescents.

I don't. I moved to Colorado in September 2024, and my practice is entirely online, serving clients in both Florida and Colorado. For Windermere clients, nothing changes about the work itself: we meet face to face on video, and you join from a private spot anywhere in Florida.

Trauma therapy focuses on the emotional and physical effects of trauma using specialized approaches like EMDR, somatic therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Unlike traditional talk therapy, it works with the mind-body connection to process trauma on a deeper level.

If you're struggling with anxiety, flashbacks, difficulty trusting others, or feeling stuck despite previous therapy, trauma therapy may help you heal and move forward.

No. Sharing your story can be part of the process, but trauma therapy focuses on processing and releasing the effects of trauma without rehashing every painful detail.

I work with adults experiencing a range of trauma, including childhood trauma, relationship trauma, PTSD, medical trauma, and the impacts of neglect, abuse, or significant life events.

Trauma isn't measured by the size of the event but by its impact on you. Ongoing experiences like emotional neglect, criticism, or chronic stress can shape your nervous system as much as a single crisis. If it still affects you, it's worth addressing.
