Trauma Therapy in Miami and throughout Florida

Sometimes trauma announces itself loudly, through panic attacks, nightmares, or vivid memories. Other times it hides inside everyday life as people-pleasing, anger that seems to come from nowhere, chronic exhaustion, or an inability to relax. Trauma therapy helps you understand these responses as your body's attempts to protect you, and then helps you heal what's underneath.

I work with Miami adults online, using EMDR, IFS, and somatic approaches. As a Certified EMDR therapist, I tailor our work to your history and your nervous system, never rushing toward hard material before you're ready.

Making room to heal amid heat, noise, and responsibility

The sun setting over the sea in Florida

Living in Miami can mean being surrounded by people almost all the time, at work, at home, and in a social life that rarely pauses. For someone carrying trauma, that constant stimulation can keep the nervous system on high alert. Add the heat, the traffic on I-95, hurricane preparations each summer, and financial pressures, and it's no wonder so many people feel tired in ways sleep doesn't fix.

Trauma therapy offers a deliberate pause. In our sessions, we learn to notice the signals your body sends, practice ways to settle, and gradually work through the experiences that keep you on guard. That might include childhood trauma, relationship trauma, sudden losses, or, if they're part of your story, experiences tied to immigration or family separation, always approached at your pace. Online sessions let you choose a private space, even if that means your car parked in a quiet spot.

Therapy for Miami residents, from home

Life in Miami moves fast and often loud. Between Palmetto traffic, long hours in Brickell or Doral, and families that gather often and care deeply, carving out a private hour for yourself can feel almost impossible. Online therapy gives you that hour without the commute or the parking garage.

Many Miami households hold more than one language, more than one generation, and more than one set of expectations under the same roof. Sometimes the hardest part of starting therapy is finding a moment when no one will hear you. You might take your session from your car, from a friend's apartment, or from the office after everyone leaves. We will work with what is real for you.

I'm a licensed Florida counselor and Certified EMDR therapist, and I meet with Miami adults who are ready to go deeper than coping tips and want care that understands how the past lives in the body.

Does this resonate with you?

  1. 01

    Feeling stuck in the past

Do you find yourself replaying painful memories, unable to move forward no matter how much time has passed? Trauma can leave you feeling trapped, but it doesn't have to define your present or future. Together, we can process and release the weight of those memories so you can regain control of your life.

  2. 02

    Overwhelming anxiety and hypervigilance

Do you feel like you're always on edge, waiting for the next bad thing to happen? Trauma can wire your brain to stay in survival mode, leaving you exhausted and unable to relax. Therapy can help calm your nervous system and rebuild a sense of safety in daily life.

  3. 03

    Difficulty trusting others

Are you struggling to let people in, fearing they might hurt or disappoint you? Trauma often teaches us to build walls for protection, but those same walls can keep out genuine connection. Through a trauma-informed approach, we can rebuild trust, starting with yourself.

  4. 04

    Self-doubt and negative beliefs

Do you feel unworthy, broken, or not "good enough"? Trauma can leave a deep imprint on your sense of self. In therapy, we'll challenge and transform these beliefs, helping you reconnect with your inherent worth and strengths.

  5. 05

    Unexplained emotional or physical reactions

Do sudden waves of anger, sadness, or panic seem to come out of nowhere? Does your body feel tense, restless, or heavy without an obvious reason? Trauma often shows up as unresolved emotions or sensations stored in the body. Together, we'll explore these reactions and heal both emotionally and physically.

Healing from trauma is possible, and you deserve a life where you feel safe, connected, and at peace. Let's take that first step together.

How I can help

Becky Romero, LMHC, LPC, at her desk

As a Certified EMDR therapist with ongoing training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) through the trainings of Frank Anderson and Richard Schwartz, I bring a deeply integrative approach. My work weaves together EMDR, IFS, and attachment theory to help you process trauma, connect with your inner parts, and heal attachment wounds.

Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your needs, combining somatic awareness, guided imagery, and emotional processing to create a safe space for growth. Together, we'll uncover and address the root of your struggles, so you can move toward balance and self-compassion.

A nervous-system-first approach

Trauma lives in the body as much as in memory. Drawing on Polyvagal Theory and somatic therapy, we start by helping your nervous system feel safe enough to do the work. You'll learn practical regulation tools you can use between sessions, and we'll only move into processing when you have the resources to handle it.

My background includes inpatient psychiatric intake, emergency department, and NICU settings, so I understand how acute stress, medical trauma, and crisis can leave a lasting mark, even years later.

FAQ

Trauma Therapy in Miami: common questions

Have a question that isn't answered here? I'm happy to talk it through in a free consultation.

It can be, with a little planning. Some clients use headphones and sit in their car, others schedule sessions while family members are at work or school, and some place a white noise machine outside the door. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and what you share stays between us. If privacy at home truly isn't possible right now, we can talk through options during your free consultation.

No. All of my work is online, so there is no Miami office to visit. What I can offer is consistency: you can keep your sessions whether you are at home in Kendall, at a relative's place in Hialeah, or working late downtown, as long as you are physically in Florida at the time. If you travel outside Florida or Colorado, we would pause until you return.

I'm a private pay therapist. Sessions are $200 for 60 minutes, and I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA cards are accepted. Some plans include out-of-network mental health benefits people have never used, so it's worth calling your insurer and asking before we start.

Trauma therapy focuses on the emotional and physical effects of trauma using specialized approaches like EMDR, somatic therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Unlike traditional talk therapy, it works with the mind-body connection to process trauma on a deeper level.

If you're struggling with anxiety, flashbacks, difficulty trusting others, or feeling stuck despite previous therapy, trauma therapy may help you heal and move forward.

No. Sharing your story can be part of the process, but trauma therapy focuses on processing and releasing the effects of trauma without rehashing every painful detail.

I work with adults experiencing a range of trauma, including childhood trauma, relationship trauma, PTSD, medical trauma, and the impacts of neglect, abuse, or significant life events.

Trauma isn't measured by the size of the event but by its impact on you. Ongoing experiences like emotional neglect, criticism, or chronic stress can shape your nervous system as much as a single crisis. If it still affects you, it's worth addressing.
